Paint, Color, Tile, & Paint

The walls have been sheet-rocked and we've added color! I've loved this gray color for a while. It's called Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. It seems to go with almost anything. It has a brown undertone and goes well with wood floors too.

Here is a look at some of the creative contraptions I had to come up with to trim in all the walls to the ceiling. Let's just say I had to overcome my fear of heights.

We stuck with Revere Pewter for all of the hallways and main living areas. But decided to add color in the girls rooms, mudroom, and our room.

This is Eme's Room. I would say with this house I have had a couple of Bob Ross moments. You know where he decides to add a tree into his beautiful painting and you think. . . What did he just do, he ruined it! This color was definitely a Bob Ross moment, but once I added the stencil I saw it come to life, and hopefully in the end the room with turn out just as I have imagined.
I am going to add wainscoting up to about 6' and the upper half will be this stencil.

It reminds me of dandelion's in the summer time.

This is Ashlyn's room color. As soon as I put it on the wall I loved it! It is called Ewing Blue. Ashlyn is my little artist and is always taping her pictures up around the house, sometimes with duct-tape :(.

So instead of constantly getting mad at her we are going to put a chair-rail section up with corkboard that she can hang all of her creations on.

The mudroom I decided to go a little wild, but I think it will be fun. We will be making cubbies with a bench on the wall with the stripes, so I wanted to go bold. The cubbies will be white and Travis will be making the benches out of stained barn wood from the yard. I also took this picture from the home show for the organization wall that I want to put opposite of the bench and cubbies.

The Pantry I have not painted and I think that will be done after we move in but I want to put a stencil or wallpaper on the wall like this one.

The Master Bedroom...
So I went a little wild and I think this might be a Bob Ross that I need to change. At least on the ceiling. I know my color palette and I think once the crown molding goes up I might be okay with it but it's a little "blue". When I went to the home shows I found the exact pillows that I have bought already. They added green to the palette and it excited me to think of the possibilities of adding lime green accents to this.

I ended up buying in the girls bathroom a subway tile with a clear white glass tile. The white glass tile eventually turned blue when I put it up. It was surprisingly pleasant and I loved it! I painted their bathroom white and there are crystal lights that will be going up. Ashlyn just loves sparkly things and I think She and Eme will be excited about the finished bathroom.

I am thinking about doing a silver stencil but I want to wait until I get more into the room to see exactly where I want to go with it. The hexagon tile was some of the most simple tile to lay especially around the toilet. The cuts around the toilets are the hardest to make, but with this tile it was pretty simple.

Easton's bathroom. We have kind of been obsessed with the look of subway tile lately, so again we went with a subway tile in white and in a taupe. It looks more like brown but it ended up going well with the Rockport Grey walls. I wish I would have taken a picture of the light fixtures, but I will get that next time. This was really hard tile to lay. It seemed to move quiet a bit on me and I was constantly checking it. Luckily, I had my Dad and Brother Ty there to help keep an eye on my lines for me and cut the tile. They were lifesavers!

This is the tile that runs through the mudroom, pantry, entry, and hallways. I started laying this tile with Travis' Dad and we were so proud of ourselves. We had worked so hard all day to get it done. We were putting down the last three tiles and we hear Travis pull up and think he is going to be so happy with our awesome job. He walks in and I hear this sigh, not of relief, but of disbelief.
He walks in and informs us that the tile that we were laying was bowed. What?
We got up and checked it and yep, it definitely was crooked. We hurried as fast as we could before all the tile set up, to hurry and straighten out the bow in it. We definitely were not happy campers, but with a tender mercy from the Lord, our tile had not set up yet and we were able to move it all so that the lines were straight. I guess when you are on your knees all day you forget to get up and check to see what it looks like ;) Just for anyone laying tile. The right way is to find the center of the floor and mark it. Create an X and then lay off of that. I knew this but I thought I knew a faster way. Apparently I didn't.

These are some of the projects in the works.

  1. Beautiful work Eborns! It's so fun to see your creativity and craftsmanship come together. I agree with your comment about Ashlyn's love for sparkly things. She was here one day and I asked if she would like to read a book together, to which she responded, "only if you have a sparkly book." She will love her sparkly shower!
