Tearin' Out & Cleaning Up

Things have been a little hectic around our house lately. I guess you could call it a good hectic though, we just sold our house and we need to be out by the 10th of June. It is a little bit bitter sweet.
I was out with the kids playing in the yard a couple days back when the canal was being filled with water. It is one of my favorite things to have the canal in our back yard with the view of the Wellsville Mountains in the back. So it is bitter that we are leaving the beautiful views, and mostly bitter because we are going to miss friends and neighbors that have been so good to us.

Since things have been happening so fast I feel like we haven't had much time to work out at the farm. This week we are having the roof re-roofed and the air conditioning and heating put in. We were able to make it out Monday night to knock out an opening in the living room wall and tear up the kitchen floor. I think the opening from the living room into the hall/entry is going to make a big difference in making it feel bigger when you walk in the house from the front door.

While we were in church Sunday, Travis had one of the young men  that had been working for us come and ask him if he and his friends could clean out the barn and use it this summer for their      "hang out". We definitely were not opposed to that since it was full of straw and bird poop.

Today we had four trucks and eight kids working to clean all the hay out of the upper part of the barn.

They were in pretty good spirits considering all the hay that had to be moved.
You have gotta love teenage volunteers :)

This is their result after about 3-4 hours of work.  We couldn't be happier!

F.H.E Down on the Farm

Tonight for family home evening we decided to clean out the shop. It still has a lot of organizing, but I think we made a small dent compared to what it looked like before. My favorite part about this shop is the oil pit. (It's covered with boards) I can picture the old '72 in there getting an oil change :)

Later we had a hot dog roast with our friends the Willardsens. Travis fashioned us a firepit out of the many cinder blocks laying in the yard. It's definitely a redneck fire pit, but we all enjoyed the nice night around the fire.

The kids loved roaming and playing in the unorganized piles. Sometimes I look at it and get a little overwhelmed with the task at hand, but then I also get a little excited when I think of what it someday will become.

The Uncovering has Begun . . .

We went out tonight for a bid on the air conditioning and had some extra time,
so we decided to see what was under the carpets.
We found all original hardwoods!!!! YEAH!!!

They'll definitely need some work, and some might be too bad to restore,
but I am sure they will surprise us once we start sanding them down.

Being that this farm thing is new, I am not sure what the reasoning is behind the
cement underneath all the manure. Anyone have an answer?

A Sight to See!

So we bought a farm/barn/project/adventure!

We are moving to the country and going to try our hand at a little farm life in Paradise. Yes, for those of you who don't know the town is actually called Paradise. We signed all the paperwork on May 1, 2013 and the keys are ours today! This farm is located in the middle of town on about 3.2 acres. It has a big historic barn, silos, granary, and a farm house all in need of a little lot of TLC. I've posted some of the sights to see. ENJOY!

This is the old barn just behind the old, old, old house :)

Inside the top portion of the barn.

These are the two silos on the property.

The old granary

and I had to include some of the inside of the farm house.
These stairs are awesome!

As you can see it will definitely be a project, but keep checking back and I will post our progress and even some of our challenges of uncovering this properties hidden treasure!
